So you want to know more about me? Cool. First I think bio pages are obnoxious. It's a place where people usually write about themselves in the third person to sound more important then they think you will find them to be. I mean c'mon, everyone has a website. You know I put this together myself so if I'm gonna tell you about me, why shouldn't I speak to you directly?
Would the real BK please stand up?
I'm only 5'4" tall so while it may not look like it, I am standing! I'm a quick witted, wise cracking entertainer and will make people laugh just about any chance I get. It doesn't mean I don't take things, people and or some of life seriously. It just means I find the humor in much of life. It's how I'm wired and I if I try to turn it off, well then I'm consciously doing something that goes against who I really am. Why would I (or anyone) want to live that way?
The Rest of the Story
The rest of this page will tell you a bit about my professional life. Some call me an entrepreneur though I think that's just a fancy word for unemployable. I just like to do a few different things, have fun doing them and if I can make money doing these things, awesome! Feel free to read each section and use the links within, skip to the one that interests you or if you just want to know what's in it for you (how dare you!), use the navigation above.
Act 1 - Comedy Magic
Magic began as a hobby when I was a kid. My father, a dentist would do magic for kids in his office to reward them for good behavior. He would also do those tricks for me and my sister at home. But it was when I met Jeff Hobson at Nippersink Manor Resort (a family summer vacation spot) that I knew I wanted to be a comedy magician. Oh and to this day he is still a good friend and mentor to me. Thanks Jeff!
I went on to entertain with close-up sleight of hand in restaurants, perform at kids parties and eventually graduated to adult parties, corporate events and casinos. Nothing wrong with kids parties by the way. I respect anyone who can keep the attention of children for more than 10 minutes! I just don't fancy myself a children's entertainer. Sprinkle in a comedy club here and there and I've been doing it ever since. Minus an 8 year hiatus while I was working in the fitness industry.
Act 2 - Personal Training
I was living in Arizona (thought it was a good move for corporate entertainment) when 9/11 happened. Business came to a halt so I came home to Chicago where I was getting calls for holiday gigs. Things were slower after the holidays so I started working in customer service at a health club for extra cash and a free place to workout.
After a year of that I really fell for the fitness industry and decided to become a Certified Personal Trainer. A year later, a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. Sounds impressive eh? Well I thought I wanted to become a strength coach in the NCAA. You know what? I have all of this on my training website 4+CORE Strength & Conditioning so if training with me is what interests you, now is the time to head over there.
Act 3 - Pizza Making
Loving all things Chicago (especially pizza), back in 1999, I began perfecting my own deep dish pizza. I tried numerous recipes week after week, would eat one slice, sometimes only one bite and then pass the rest off to his neighbors. My neighbors loved me! With months of trial, the help of some of my more than willing taste testing friends, the Chef at Pizzeria Due (sister restaurant to Pizzeria Uno), my late great pal Chef Stutz and a few others, I nailed it! Now I'm cooking for and entertaining guests with my one of a kind dinner show experience, Magic by the Slice.
Act 4 - Auctioneer
I was asked by a friend if I would donate Magic by the Slice to a charity for their live auction. While in attendance, I was less than impressed with how it was sold to the and felt I could have done better. It just so happens I had already taught myself to chant like an auctioneer for a featured trick in my one-man show. As luck would have it, I was introduced to the right people and my auctioneer career was born!
Finally the end of this page!
So there you have it. As you can see whether on stage, in your living room or at a race site, I pretty much belong in front of an audience and certainly enjoy holding the mic. I mean even when training clients I'm always cracking jokes, some of which are just for me but if you like 'em, that's a bonus!
